photo booths for san francisco Our Tennis Club

What qualities affect the photo booth experience?

Many companies rent a "photo booth" for events. The variety of systems can be very confusing to the shopper especially since many companies hold back on information, pricing, photos, etc. In addition to our section "shop" here is more information to help you choose.

The one big reason to choose a service that offers a real booth

First, consider an extreme opposite example, the driver's licence photo. An experience that has approximately the same comfort level as a job interview. Tension, unease, discomfort all become present and you have a photo that reminds your friends of a poster for a wanted criminal which is why you keep it hidden in your wallet/purse.

Next consider a sort of photo booth. Way less tension than the driver's license but the guest is off balance because the booth is not what they expect and their comfort level is negatively affected. Resulting photos range between a prom picture and a real photo booth.

When all of the necessary elements come together in a real photo booth a change happens for people. Even before they step in they have a feeling of both ease and excitement because they know what to expect. Once inside they sit down on the padded seat, close the curtain and they are now inside a comfortable, protected private environment. For one minute they get to take a break from the crowd and have a fun and creative time of their own invention. It would be a bit of an overstatement to say that a real photo booth is consistently magical, but at the same time we can say that every scrapbook produced is a real work of art with many dear moments and often unexpected pages of candid images with a wide range of creativity and feeling.

The gory details...
Summary of elements that compose a "real" photo booth experience

Physical elements

  1. Automatic operation = no "attendant" or as some guests say "chaperone."
  2. Hard walls on all sides = not a tent made out of curtains.
  3. A roof and a floor = not a photo booth that came out of a suitcase (not kidding!)
  4. Built in seating = not standing.

Subjective elements

  1. A place to sit. How about a cushy velvet covered bench?
  2. Places to lean against. Hard to be creative if you fall through a curtain.
  3. A sense that the booth is solid. "We can get one more in here on top."
  4. Comfort. The all important part of the experience.
  5. Enclosure. This is a separate space...the mind is now free to be creative.

Feedback from events that did not use our photo booth

I think it was made out of sprinkler pipe.

It was so cheesy.

Oh, you have a real booth, the last one looked like a kids creation.

It was OK. I think they had it mailed and set it up themselves.

Your booth is so fast, at the last wedding the photos took forever to print.

There was a (bad word) person running around trying to make it work.

Their booth wasn't able to go inside, we had to set it up outside.

They had an attendant and 2 printers and yet there was still a wait to get your photo.
